MOON GODDESS IXCHEL

In the beginning when the gods were mortal, there was a beautiful princess named Ixchel.

There were many men who pretended including a young man named Itzamná.

One day came a prince of another empire, to pay tribute for victory in battle of the people of Ixchel and fell in love when he first met her.

The villagers told him that Itzamná the intended and apparently she began to fall before then since met Itzamná rebuked by the love of Ixchel.

Her older sister; Ixtab decided they would fight until one of them died, the survivor would with Ixchel, but Ixtab unaware that Ixchel was in love with Itzamná.





Itzamná going to beat but his opponent struck in the back with dirty tricks and died. Ixchel to see the death of his beloved ran the place and commending their souls to Ixtab, life took off.

Ixtab cursed with dirty tricks that I kill Itzamná, and no one raises what happened to him, his sister whom she commended his soul to die, it became the Goddess of suicide.

The souls of the girls princess guided the lovers in the sky and so Itzamná became the Sun God, and Ixchel, became his wife and the Moon Goddess.

In gratitude and as a proof of his love for Ixchel, Itzamná divided into day and night and the night gave shine to the souls of those maidens who are the brightest stars.

It is said that every New Fire Goddess Ixchel reborn from heat and allow maidens fall in love and give fruit of that love as a child, is why it is also considered goddess of childbirth and fertility.

The people of the village disappeared Xcaret believed that when a soul dies noble heart becomes a star, so each new fire, offer an offering to the goddess forgive what they had done to anger her and aspire to become one of the stars that light the way.
