Impossible Love

IMPOSSIBLE LOVE

Deep in the jungle of the Mayab was a wonderful kingdom. The prince of the kingdom was called Chacdziedzib, which means "Bird Cardinal" and was madly in love with the daughter of the keeper of the Sacred Cenote, Nicté-Ha, which means "Water Flower".

Chacdziedzib, the red robe, was loved and revered by his people because he was a brave and gallant warrior who never failed with arrows from his bow. Before dawn, the prince looked for his beloved on the edge of the Sacred Cenote and the air filled with words of love to Nicte-Ha when dawn broke the sky with rays of light.
One day, the high priest, convinced that Chacdziedzib should marry a daughter of kings, opposed their love with Nicté-Ha and summoned the nobles, who decided that the daughter of the Sacred Cenote guardian must die. The court jester had heard everything and full of fear, she told the prince, who ordered his best warrior go in search of his beloved and bring her to the royal palace where he would take her as his wife.
The noble warrior went out on his mission, but in the black dark of night a murderous hands took him to death and threw his body into the thickets. The jester turned to see everything.
When the prince of the red robe heard what happened, he took his bow and went to the Sacred Cenote in search of his beloved. That night moon watched his dreams under the ceiba.
When in dawn, Nicté-Ha went to look to the still waters of cenote, the prince approached her and took her in his arms.
He loved her with all his might. But from the shadows came an arrow that pierced the chest of the maid. Her frail, lifeless body fell and sank in the waters of the Sacred Cenote, the abode of the gods. The prince saw disappear the body of his beloved. Only Nicté-Ha dress hung in the calm waters of the cenote.
His grief was profound. Bathed in tears asked the gods pity and compassion. Such was his pain, his heart was shattered and fell dying on the edge of the Sacred Cenote, a pool of blood. The gods heard him and sent the Lord of Waters and Mr. Bird.
The Lord of the waters went down to deep cenote and became limp body Nicté-Ha in a beautiful lotus. The Lord of the Birds put his hands on the prince's heart and turned it into a beautiful cardinal bird, always thirsty for love.
Since then, when the sun rises a red bird down to the Sacred Cenote to sing songs of love on open lotus chalices.
